Will Scrap 4 U

Shannon had made this oil pastel drawing several months ago and it's been hanging on my bulletin board in my office. I think it's really cool, and I really should frame it and put it in a better place. The more I look at it, the more I see in it.

This is her combo of the devil and God, of hell and heaven.  On the left is anger and fire, on the right is happiness and flowing streams, clouds, etc.  If you look at it as a whole, you see one face, but there are really two faces combined into one.  It's an optical illusion and I think it's cool!  I think it's pretty insightful for a ten year old.

Perspective

And speaking of art work and crafty things, tomorrow is National Scrapbooking Day.  Well, every day is scrapbooking day for me if I have anything to do with it.  Actually I won't be doing any tomorrow, because we're swamped all day.  It's also Derby Day and since we live near the great Commonwealth of Kentucky, we'll be venturing across the river to our friends' house to their annual party, where we'll dine on deep fried turkey, bet on the horses, and wear fun and funky hats.

I do want to do something for NSD, however, so if you're interested, I've decided to do my own giveaway.  Leave me a comment and let me know how you got started scrapbooking, and on Sunday I'll draw three random names.  If you're a winner, I'll do a digital layout with your photos for your own album.  I always think it's fun to scrap somebody else's photos, so everybody wins on this one!  If you don't scrap, leave a comment anyways and we'll just figure something else out.  I hope you'll play along!

Unfortunately, it's Friday morning and that means that I'm off to the office this morning.  Time to refill the coffee and get moving.  Keep those comments coming, I can't wait to read all about how you got started!  Happy Dos de Mayo!

Oh, and just for fun, I leave you with a layout I finished yesterday using Annie Manning's new Violet Drops kit over at Shabbypickledesigns.com.  Confessions.....

Love your blog. Your blog heading is fantastic and your latest layout is stunning (new kit from Annie Manning, I didn't know that). The drawing is so cool, my daughter at 10 cannot draw like this!

Hu hu hu, great layout... and very funny journaling !

I would love a digi layout! I got started scrapping about 6 years ago. I wanted to make copies of my children's photos for them to have (my grown children). Then I remember there was this "thing" called Scrapbooking. Believe it or not I went to the library to learn about scrapbooking. Then on to picking up my first magazine, Scrapbook, etc., and then to the LSS. At the LSS I met what was to become one of my best scrapping friends. For two months I hand cut everything and used elmers spray adhesive. When the store owner realized I really did not know what a personal trimmer was or what adhesvies to use she kindly put me on the path I've yet to get off. I love this craft. I have three passions in life: my faith, my family, my craft!

Thanks for the opporutnity to win a digi. And you daughter is very talented.

You should totally have that printed out on canvas and hung! Amazing job your daughter did! I got started scrapbooking in January 2005. A lot of the ladies on my mommy board had started and thought it would be something I'd love trying and I was hooked! lol

wooohooo barb! this is such a cool idea, and a layout from you, would be a dream for me!

I started scrapping around 2 years ago.... I have made letters for Incredimail and sig tags and always looks for something more usefull to do, and when I discovered digiscrapping I was really happy about it.... started this and never stoped again. Paperscrapping is not so common here in germany and very very expensive

Coolness. If I win, you can scrap a photo from our wedding and then I'll have a neato layout to hang for our 25th anniversary in October!

I don't remember if I started scrapping because my friend Karen talked about it so much, or just because it was a craft I hadn't yet tried. But my first album was Christmas from 1985-whatever year we were in at the time. Full of stickers and glitter and such, but I still think it is a masterpiece and love looking at it every year!

You're right you should frame it. Shannon that's an exceptional piece of art, I really like it. I hope you keep drawing/painting as grow older, you have great talent :o)

I like you page Barb! It's really well done and the colours work really well!

I started digital scrapbooking when a physiotherapist told me that my right hand thumb joint was worn out - about 40 odd years too early, and if I wanted to be able to feed myself, or put on my own makeup I had to stop cross stitching NOW, immediately, go straight to jail do not pass go sort of time!

I needed something I could be creative with that would be kinder to my hands: it took me 6 months before I found digital scrapbooking but I've not looked back since, and there have been many wonderful opportunities for me in the last 3 years :o)

Barb! This is incredibly generous of you...anyone would be so lucky to have a page scrapped by you!

Umm...how I started scrapbooking. I started 2 years ago after hearing about it on a twin mom forum. I jumped in, downloaded a zillion freebies, and the rest is history! I swear, if I don't get some time to scrap each day I go insane! LOL!

Have a great weekend!

i made my first scrapbook in 8th grade because I wanted to remember my friends, what we did, etc. It was full of newspaper clippings, ticket stubs and everyday pictures that I took when I snuck my camera to school. ;) i would love to have the amazing barb scrap my photos; good luck to me! :)

GORGEOUS layout! i love that purple!

How did I get started scrapping. I bought a book when Jordan was a newborn because my sister in law was making one for my niece and it was so pretty! It was never finished because I just wasn't good at Paper N Glue stuff. When Kat was a baby I was on a baby board and some of the girls started digi. I searched for some free scrapping supplies and a monster was created! LOL

Email me if you get a chance, I want to give ya something to play with!

Your layout is absolutley gorgeous as is Shannon's drawing. Amazing for a 10 yr old. Have fun with your Derby party tomorrow. But make sure you get all your shopping done, lol.

I started digiscrapping because my SIL is such an awesome paper scrapper that I knew it would take me years and years to reach her level but I also wanted to scrap. I actually started with Smilebox and then got led to the digital community. I'm so happy I did, cuz I have a ton of new, great friends and an outlet to call my own. And if by chance I should be one of the lucky ones, I already have an idea on a series of photos that I know you would Rawk on.

Enjoy your weekend!!

Now, don't put me in your drawing because I don't want anyone to think it's fixed...but I think you remember about the time that I crossed over to the "dark side"! I had been working at IP for a while and thinking that all you girls were off your rockers for thinking that cutting and pasting paper and pictures was some kind of art form...then it happened...the addiction when I realized that I could use pictures of my beautiful granddaughter and make pages that people would want to look at over and over again. Do they have a rehab for this condition?! LOL

what a great idea! i got started scrapping ust before Christmas last year, mainly because i was looking for a way to preserve photo cards,

What a super giveaway! I've been digi scrapping for a very long time, in the form of websites and simple cards and such, but officially started doing layouts and albums 3 years ago before the birth of my second son.

WOW - this layout is amazing - as is all your wonderful stuff :)

What a COOL drawing your little one did- talentd like mama !
I got started scrapping by a friend who invited me to a stampin-up party about 4.5yrs ago. I started out with cards and than was slowly encouraged to make layouts and projects.

What a great giveaway.

I started scrapping in 1997. I had just moved to Utah from Cincinnati where I had live all my 29 years. The very first day of picking up my kids from school, I must have looked totally lost and a mom came up and introduced herself. She was a CM consultant who had just relocated from Chicago. We became instant friends and the rest is history. I was so fortunate to live in Salt Lake where scrapbooking is HUGE and I had no problem finding a LSS. I have since left SLC and live in Tampa but we have some great stores and I haven't stopped scrapping since.

Hi Barb!

I've been cutting and pasting stuff since high school, but I started formally scrapping in 2000 the same way almost everyone does--I had a baby! Didn't start digi until last year though.

I started scrapping when I was 5 (almost 39 years ago)

My grandpa had these amazing scrapbooks he put togther. There was ephemera, photos journaling, lots of neat stuff for me to pour over for hours upon hours. It was always very important to him that we as his grandkids knew where we came from, who our ancesters were and why and how he came to our country. He and my great grandma documented EVERYTHING.

I loved the idea of knowing all of that and loved the albums so much that I started my own. i even got yto use the camera whenever i wanted to. :P

my original albums arent too different from what i do now, though they were magentic ones and i used construction paper instead of acid free. i did include ephemera, ribbon, buttons and even eyelets that i set with my moms eyelet setter that she had in her sewing drawer. (apparently i was decades ahead of the trends). Oh and I wrote in my little girl scrawl with crayons, pencils and later markers.

I have always lovd scrapbooking, its in my genes:)

My mum went into scrapbooking and than gave me all her stuff... I started scrapbooking then... :)
3 years ago... (but it seems much longer anymway... ;)

Well, I used to scrapbook when I was a kid - probably since middle school / high school age, but I more so saved all of my memorabilia.

My aunt started archival scrapbooking about 10-12 years ago (yep, you guessed it! with creative memories) - and she roped me into that. The rest is history!
