I didn't update here yesterday. That's because I overslept.
I had been pretty good about getting up before the rooster in 2009 to workout, until I came down with The Bizarre Virus at the end of last week, and that's pretty much rocked me out of my routine for a while. It wasn't a cold, it might have been the flu, I did have a lot of body aches. Maybe it was Ebola. Who knows? I was pretty much in bed all weekend, then ended up working from home on both Monday and Tuesday.
Yesterday was the first day that I was finally starting to feel like myself again, so it was back to the normal work day routine. I'm usually really good about getting up in the morning. I'm an early bird and really don't need the alarm clock. I tend to wake up a minute or two before my alarm rings and look at the clock and wait for the alarm to go off. But yesterday I made the mistake of hitting the snooze bar.
The problem is the aftermath of The Bizarre Virus has left me with a lot of congestion in my ears, and I can't hear. I feel like I'm living underwater, so if you have something to say, PLEASE SPEAK UP BECAUSE I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!!! And needless to say, I couldn't hear the snooze go off either. My routine is messed up, my ears are messed up, and when I rolled over and looked at the clock and it said 6:59, yesterday morning was certainly messed up.
It's amazing how fast you wake up and get moving when you oversleep for more than an hour. Crap, crap, crap! Run here, run there, let the dog out, make the coffee...run, run, run. The people at ACME have been great this week, so I wasn't about to be late for work after being gone for two days. I'm glad nobody in the press was critiquing what I was wearing on Inauguration Day.
Oversleeping is also a complete guarantee for a bad hair day, especially in January, where the static cling makes you look like you put your hands on one of those electricity balls. I just happen to have one of those at home. See?
(no, not really)
So anyways, today I wasn't taking any chances. I woke up two minutes before my alarm rang, so I got up and put the two feet on the floor. I made the coffee and let the dog out without the assistance of four letter words. Now it's off to try to have a better hair day.

thanks for this! it was very informative. I'm doing a bit of an independant study on coffee companies and found this very helpful.

I don't even hear it. And my husband relies on me to get him up so we can both get the kids up and ready for the day (and get the older ones off to preschool). So if I'm running late, we all run late and it just sets the tone for the whole day...ugh!

I'm wondering if this cold/virus/bug thing is contagious from the internet. I have it too and it seems like everyone does. Glad you're feeling better. Hope you can hear the alarm tomorrow.

I can totally relate to that "oh crap" feeling you have when you realize you've overslept. I'm always one to wake up on my own a few minutes before the alarm goes off but there have been times I'm just so darn tired, I don't even hear it. And my husband relies on me to get him up so we can both get the kids up and ready for the day (and get the older ones off to preschool). So if I'm running late, we all run late and it just sets the tone for the whole day...ugh!
Glad you're feeling better!!

I've just recovered from a weird virus too, so I completely understand what you mean!

Like Amanda, I am so not a morning person. However, I have 3 humans and 2 animals who will wake me if I dare catch an extra 10 minutes.

I'm glad someone an wake up and start the day unassisted by 4 letter words. I'm not one of them. I just do not do mornings. I'm the bad mom who says "Here's a cup and here's a bowl of cereal (dry)." Then I turn on a Thomas the Train DVD and I have 30 min to sit and read e-mails and drink my caffeine of choice without wanting to rip someone's head off.

Oversleeping must be contagious, because Allie and Molly did it this morning. They managed to make it out the door on time, but I hope neither of them has a test this morning, because as you pointed out, oversleeping usually makes the whole day rough!
